Ohio Soybean Farmer

Allen Armstrong

“We care for all of our fields just as you would care for your garden at home.”

Allen Armstrong
Soybean Farmer

Name: Allen Armstrong
Location: South Charleston, Ohio
Years farming: I am a sixth generation family farmer and have been farming for 30 years.
My family: My wife Amy and I have two children – Alissa is 18 and Andrew is 15.
How I came to be a farmer: Growing up on the farm I had a good idea that it was the life for me. As a young adult I had the opportunity to explore other careers but I kept coming back to my original love -farming. There are ways to make a better financial living but there is no better way to raise a family!
The best thing about being a farmer: The best thing about being a farmer is that we care for the environment and our fields just as much as someone would care for their garden. As a farmer, I am very concerned about the environment and work hard at being the best steward of the land as possible while at the same time helping to provide the U.S. and the world with a safe and abundant food supply.
My personal philosophy on farming: I feel that farmers are the original environmentalists because the environment is what we depend upon to grow a healthy and vibrant crop. I can’t imagine any other occupation that I would rather be in. The fact that we get to start every year with a fresh slate, and grow a new crop, while utilizing the latest in technology is a wonderful thing.
